Meme Remix

For the remix assignment I have not strayed too far from the original memes that I chose but added a personal touch to them both in different ways. For the first meme, which was originally a classic image of Willy Wonka, I replaced the photo with one of my own childhood pictures. I feel that this photo of my younger brother and I captures the same content as the original meme, while changing the form and possibly the stance of it. By using two people in a much more crowded scene, I feel that this photo actually represents the content even better. Further, I mentioned in my first writing that me meme reminded me of a younger age, which is also accurately represented here.

In my second remix the content and form are very similar to the original meme, with a slight alteration of the type of dish and how it is being imitated. I believe the stance here is exactly the same, as it is capturing a relatable feeling of laziness, while also expressing creativity. In Shifman’s writing she mentions the ‘key’ of a meme as a sub-dimension of stance. Here, the message that is being communicated to viewers is mostly humorous, but also has more of a sense of seriousness as this strategy actually works. While the original meme using a bell pepper was, in my opinion, created purely for comical purposes, this remix brings to the table a slightly more serious stance while still encompassing funny form and content.
